On June 7, 2009 the students took over the Sunday morning service and Tom spoke. Here is his teaching that reminds us all, old and young, to see faith as adventurous and exciting, to get out of the routine and to start living.

This week begins our Community part of the Go! Series. Over the next few weeks we will be focusing on how to be the body in our community. Tonight, Tom shares with us the importance in being the body and serving in the body, with the body, and as the body. We must serve each other and our surrounding community as Christ served and calls us to serve.

This week starts our Summer long series “GO!” as Tom takes us into the connection between worship and justice. We will see that God calls us not just to follow some religous ordinances, but to live a life of justice and servanthood.

Even when we find freedom from our secrets and we clean out our heart, why do we still remember what happened? Why is it like we have scars written on our hearts even after we feel God free us? What is the purpose of scars, and will they always be there?

We’ll see that God allows scars so that we never return to the pain and one day God will erase all of our scars because they are not who we are, we are made in the image of God.

This week we look at what it looks like to hide in our secrets. It can be easier sometimes to just put a smile on our faces and act like everything is ok, but God wants us to be transparent because we cannot feel shame when we are. Adam and Eve hid from God and because of it they felt shame, but little did they see, and little did we see, that the freedom that we would have would have been one tree over.

In our new series, My Dirty Little Secret, we see how one decision can lead to a secret that grows and grows until it destroys us. We’ll see that we have a tendency to hide in our destruction, holding our hands against the door hoping no one can see what we’re hiding. And finally we’ll see how to live in the freedom we receive from God and how to perceive scars.

This weeks teaching looks at the road to destruction and examines the story of David. We begin to understand how one bad decision can become a secret which in turns leads to another bad decision followed by another bad decision.

This week Barry brings us the final message in our BFF series. We are looking at what makes a good friend. This week we find out that a good friend is loyal and willing to sacrifice for the good of their friend.

This week Tom brings us another message in our BFF series. We are looking at what makes a good friend. This week we find out that a good friend invests into us by encouraging us to grow, by asking the tough questions, and by creating an atmosphere of affirmation.

Barry Tucker - Next Generation Pastor

We apologize for the two missed weeks of our podcast. We were reorganizing our system and it forced us to be down for two weeks. But we are back up and running.

This week, Tom and Barry tag team to share stories of friendship. Barry told us the story of David and Jonathan while Tom tells us about Barnabas and John Mark. Tom points out to us that a good friend will always fight for you, even if their job is on the line, even when its bigger than them, and even when you can’t fight for yourself.

This week Tom talks about the difference between faith external and faith internal. When we have a faith internal there will be evidence in the external. There is a wide gap between body and spirit, and when we just focus on faith in the body we will not last. However, when we focus on the heart, then we affect eternity. Tom digs into Matthew 5 where Christ says that he didn’t come to abolish the law, but to fulfill it.

This week Barry takes us through a brief passage in the Sermon on the Mount that tells us to be the salt and light of the earth. Barry shows us the three things that salt and light have in common and proves to be valuable in our lives.

We apologize for the delay this week, there were some technical difficulties.

This week Tom looks at the challenge Jesus laid out to us in the Beatitudes and the Lord’s Prayer. We are living in a kingdom that transforms the World through us as God feeds us spiritually. We are blessed when we realize that God has already provided for us, no longer searching for our own success, but realizing God’s success. The question left for us is: Who are we living our life for, God or ourselves.

Dustin is coming to us via Ginghamsburg where he served as a Worship Leader in the adult body and in the youth program, Merge. Before that, Dustin worked with Tom at Christian Life Center’s Senior High, serving under Adam Demetrician. Dustin had the opportunity to work with 300 high school students as the Worship Leader, also focusing on areas like outreach.

For the past six months or so we have been giving to blood:water mission who has been building wells in Africa to supply clean drinking water. In that time we have been able to give over 300 people drinking water for a year. We have been overjoyed at this opportunity and we can’t wait to see what God continues to do through their ministry.

Tom Hagedon - Youth Discipleship Director

In our new series, “That’s What Jesus Said” we are digging into the red letters of the Bible to see what Jesus has called us to be as we have died to ourselves and it is He who lives in us. The focus of the series is the Sermon on the Mount as we take some of the most pratical teachings of Christ and apply them to our lives. Because of an interview with Micah from Exodus Cry, this week’s teaching was shortened and will be continued next week.

A good follow up reading to this teaching would be Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s “Cost of Discipleship” Chapter 6 “The Beatitudes” (starting with pg. 59).

Tom Hagedon - Youth Discipleship Director

This week we had baptism service. We had 7 students baptized in front of family and friends. Tom explains what baptism is and why we do it, while baptizing the students throughout the teaching. At the end, Tom gives an invitation to salvation where 6 new students responded. Those students have been given a new Bible with a one week devotion to understand the decision they’ve made. Along with the devotion, students are being contacted by a one-on-one discipler who will connect with them for eight weeks.

So far, 15 new students have accepted Christ this year (2009).

This week Tom talks about how growing deep can bring health to our family. He walks through some scriptures in Hebrews, focusing on the analogy given by the author of Hebrews, that we are to stop drinking milk at some point and start eating meat; but even further, we are not supposed to keep going back in forth, making a meat shake. Tom also interviews Eli, whose life has changed in the past six months by God. Eli shows us what it look like to grow deep in the family.
